Daniel Comboni
In 1872 Bishop Daniel Comboni founded our Missionary Congregation to help him work in the "regeneration" of Africa. His motto and methodology were "SAVE AFRICA WITH AFRICA". His plan was to take the Gospel to people who had not yet experienced Christ's message of hope and salvation.
Comboni's vision of preparing Africans to evangelise their own people was an extraordinary idea for his time, an idea which proved to be prophetic. Comboni's plan encouraged his followers to witness the Gospel by their example, words and service and to join the struggle of the poor by "making common cause with them". Even today Comboni Missionaries often risk their lives to remain with the people during time of war, famine and drought.
Where we are
Today the Comboni Missionary Sisters are present in 33 countries of Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas.
We go to places of first evangelisation and develop the services most needed, giving "an account of those who ask the reason for our hope" (1 Pt.3:15).
Our international membership (1800 sisters from 30 nations) provides us with an understanding of the various cultures and countries in which we live and serve, and encourages us to work for a more just and peaceful world.
Our Call
Our call, God's gifts, and a strong life of faith, urge us to minister to the poorest and the marginalised, to promote the well-being of women oppressed by unjust situations, to educate the young preparing them for a better future, to work for an improved quality of life where people are deprived of their basic rights and to help prepare leaders.
Centred on the love of God for all people, we are committed to evangelisation among the poorest and the excluded. We seek to combine a life of prayer with a life of committed service. We live in community and value the diversity of nationalities, cultures and talents and strive to live our vows of chastity, poverty and obedience.
